Job Description Summary
This position is for a full-time faculty for Physics with an emphasis in Geology and/or Astronomy. South Texas College is a comprehensive institution, which places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the College.

Prepares and submits First Week Financial Aid Attendance Rosters, Census Rosters, and Learning Outcome Data, by the respective deadlines each semester
Assures confidentiality
Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities:
Serves on College, divisional, and program committees, teams, and task forces as assigned
Attends meetings and events as required by College administration
Participates in professional activities which contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents
Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from College and division administrators and program chairs
Fosters and maintains effective working relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors
Assists the chair in developing, reviewing, and revising curriculum

Education and/or Experience
Applicant must meet the STC credential requirements as published in Board Policy 4151: Academic and Professional Credentials of Faculty
doctorate or master’s degree in Physics, Geology, Astronomy, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution;
or a doctorate or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the Physics, Geology, or Astronomy;

Each faculty member teaches at all levels of the curriculum and is active in original research in fields such as radio astronomy; computational general relativity; infrared spectroscopy; magnetic materials; energy use in buildings; atomic and molecular physics, nonlinear optics; relativity for non-scientists, and theoretical physics. The department is housed within the Wright Laboratory as part of the Oberlin Science Center and co-administers a local supercomputer with 200 TB storage and 720 compute cores. Support staff includes an electronics specialist, a machinist, and a computing specialist. Responsibilities
In addition to teaching courses in both physics and astronomy (4.5 courses per year), the incumbent will establish an active research program involving students; laboratory space and start-up funds will be provided. Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in astrophysics, physics, astronomy or related fields (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2017-18). Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellent undergraduate teaching and mentored research. Postdoctoral research experience is desirable as is teaching experience at undergraduate level, especially working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups of students. The Post Doctoral Project Coordinator will be working on NSF Award DGE-1633275 with RIT and the American Physical Society. The project is titled "Collaborative Research: NRT-IGE: Deploying Holistic Admissions and Critical Support Structures to Increase Diversity and Retention of US Citizens in Physics Graduate Programs."
This project will pilot targeted interventions in US graduate physics programs to increase the access to, and retention of, women and underrepresented minorities in PhD physics programs. The project coordinator will develop workshop and training materials, conduct workshops, interact with project partners, and conduct research around diversity and inclusion in PhD physics programs. The project coordinator will also create and administer interview protocols and surveys to understand faculty and student attitudes toward admissions and retention; analyze qualitative and quantitative data from interviews and surveys; and communicate results to others in higher education and STEM education and diversity research through published papers and conference presentations.

Course Descriptions:
- Physics 111: Explores the physical world through reasoning, mathematics and experimentation. Examines kinematics, force, circular motion, energy, momentum, torque, rotational dynamics, simple harmonic motion, temperature, heat and thermodynamics. The concepts and theories presented are explored through demonstrations and hands-on experiments. It is a general physics course that is recommended for all of the health sciences and all other interested students. Students entering engineering or one of the advanced sciences should register for PHY 211.~~This course is one of the Statewide Guaranteed Transfer courses.

The Department of Physics at Lebanon Valley College invites applications for the position of assistant professor of Physics beginning August 2017. This full-time, three-year, renewable term position (with the potential for conversion to tenure track) requires a Ph.D. in physics or a related field.
Qualifications
The
successful candidate will be expected to develop an upper-division
elective course in physics, while also contributing to courses at the
introductory level. The successful candidate will also be expected to
establish an undergraduate research program, preferably in an area of
experimental physics. Opportunities also exist for engaging in our
vital liberal arts curriculum. Candidates with experience in innovative
teaching pedagogies and learning technologies are encouraged to apply.
