Applications are invited for a one-year faculty position in
the Department of Physics at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor
(higher rank may be considered for candidates with exceptional
experience) to begin August 1, 2013. A Ph.D. in physics (or closely
related area) is required; postdoctoral teaching experience is a plus.
Though a particular research area is not required, an experimentalist is
preferred. Primary responsibilities will be teaching introductory
physics, modern physics, and labs at the introductory and intermediate
levels.
The candidate will have access to a research lab and will be invited to apply for a tenure-track experimental physics position, which will be filled following a national search we will commence in late fall 2013. Dynamic young candidates are encouraged to apply for this one-year position as they will gain valuable teaching experience in an environment with mentoring opportunities. Current physics research focuses computational modeling, physics of sports, and astrophysics associated with small solar system bodies like asteroids and comets. Selected candidate must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the College.
To apply, send letter of application, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, a brief statement summarizing research interests, copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and names and contact information of three references to Desi Justis, Physics Search, School of Sciences, Lynchburg College, 1501 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, VA 2501-3113, or e-mail materials to justis.d@lynchburg.edu. For additional information on physics at Lynchburg College, please visit: http://www.lynchburg.edu/physics.xml. Review of applications begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.
