Position:                      The Department of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor to begin Fall Semester 2013 (August 26, 2013) or Spring Semester 2014 (January 9, 2014).  This is a tenure track position for a candidate with an earned doctorate and a record of teaching, research, and service appropriate for appointment rank.  This is a nine month appointment with the possibility of summer employment.  

Required/Preferred Qualifications:      Required qualifications include: Earned doctorate (which must be completed and posted by July 1, 2013) in science education or related field such as curriculum and instruction and/or K-12 education with an emphasis in science education from a regionally accredited institution.  Two years of successful teaching in K-12 settings.  A record of scholarly productivity and/or research agenda in science education.  Knowledge and experience in the following areas of study:
1.      Approaches to science education
2.     Content area literacy in science
3.     Pre-service and in-service training for science educators

Preferred qualifications include:
1.     Training and experience in comprehensive science education, that may include STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), and research underpinnings
2.     Teaching experience in environmental education.
3.     Teaching experience in science education at the university level
4.     Experience and commitment to working with students from diverse population groups
5.     Commitment to integrating social justice issues into the curriculum
6.     Experience and interest in teaching with technology
7.     Experience in supervision of pre-service teachers in school settings
8.     Experience and commitment to cross-department collaboration

Responsibilities:          Responsibilities will include:  Teaching undergraduate and graduate pre-service or practicing teachers in science education, advising students enrolled in education programs, serving on committees and other activities as assigned.  Scholarly work including research and publication as well as service contributions are expected for tenure and promotion.

Salary:                         Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
