Description: A Lab Manager is needed to oversee and manage an open laboratory area at MIT Lincoln Laboratory which will serve as a single convenient, comprehensive and open space designed to facilitate innovation. This new laboratory space will consist of a software engineering lab, systems development area, electronics lab, and machining area. It is envisioned that this laboratory will support staff development and training, pre-program idea or concept validation and unstructured curiosity-driven prototyping and experimentation.
The Lab Manager will have operational oversight and will perform a hands-on instructional role. Specific responsibilities include: instructing and supporting staff through hands-on assistance, one-on-one training and short classes and tutorials; ensuring safety in all operations; managing laboratory space to include keeping records of usage statistics, budget, inventory and other metrics, as well as providing recommendations and guidance on further laboratory space development including major equipment purchases; and maintaining laboratory space organization and cleanliness.
It is expected that the Lab Manager will be familiar and experienced with using machining and electronics equipment, understand and is skilled in all safety requirements and will be able to train others in their safe operations.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and/or other relevant education plus a minimum of 4 years of applicable experience.
Ability to handle several projects simultaneously
4+ years of experience working in a laboratory space, including machining and electronics fabrication areas
2+ years of experience as a supervisor, manager, instructor, or similar role with proven experience training others, managing projects/budgets and interacting with vendors.
Demonstrated capabilities in presenting ideas written and orally are required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
