General Description of the Job
The successful candidate for this tenure-track position will teach undergraduate and master’s level earth science and methods of teaching middle and high school science courses.
 
Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
  1. Teach undergraduate and master’s level earth science including methods of teaching middle and high school science courses.
  2. Maintain office hours to counsel and advise students.
  3. Participate in University/College/Department/Professional committees.
  4. Participate in curriculum development.
  5. Participate in syllabi development and/or revision.
  6. Actively pursue external funding through grant writing.
  7. Actively engage in scholarly and other creative activities.
  8. Demonstrate and maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter.
  9. Meet each class as scheduled.
Other Functions
The candidate will also serve as an advisor for students majoring in the field of science education.  There may be occasions when the candidate will be called upon to visit area schools to observe and mentor students in clinical settings.  There is an expectation that candidates engage in grant writing and publications in the pursuit of a record of scholarly accomplishment.
 
Qualification Standards
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. The candidate must possess an earned doctoral degree in science education or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.  (ABD candidates will be considered)           
  2. The candidate should have a minimum of three years of experience working as a science educator in a P-12 setting.
  3. The candidate must also demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with peers as a team member within diverse settings and diverse populations.
Desired Qualifications:
  1. An active involvement in the profession.
  2. Experience training or working with public school teachers.
  3. Experience using educational technology commonly found in a science classroom.
  4. Knowledge of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education/ Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (NCATE/CAEP).
  5. Experience collaborating with colleagues in other science disciplines.
