The Department of Physics and Physical Science at Marshall University invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2011. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in the physical sciences, or an Ed. D. in science education.

Applications should include evidence of (or potential for) excellence in teaching, and the ability to establish an externally-funded research program suitable for undergraduate teaching education.

Teaching duties will include courses for non-majors in physics, chemistry, astronomy and earth science lecture and labs. The successful candidate is expected to have some knowledge in the history and philosophy of science and the role of the nature of science in public school science teaching. Experience in State and National Standards, certification issues, curriculum and testing methods and experience teaching in public schools is desired.

We also seek a colleague who will contribute to the University's general education curriculum with its emphasis on First-Year Seminar which is intended to enhance students' critical thinking, and the College's support of interdisciplinary programs.
