Montgomery College (Maryland), Germantown campus is seeking a Physics full-time faculty member to fill a position beginning Fall 2015. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. 

Assignment begins August 2015. Online applications must be received by March 1, 2015. 

Starting salary range is $56,840 78,290 per academic year.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit and requires payment of dues or a service fee.
 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach 30 equivalent semester hours per academic year of courses related to Physics
  • Teach both lecture and laboratory sections for engineering/physical science majors, life science/health majors, and non-science majors
  • Faculty member may be asked to teach astronomy
  • Participate in club sponsorships
  • Mentor students, and also be an effective student advocate, particularly for students who are transferring to 4-year institutions
  • Advise students about transfer and proactively arrange for scholarship, research or internship opportunities
  • Teach a varied schedule that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections, or possibly be asked to teach on another campus if needed. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes
  • Serve on, or lead, department, discipline, campus and college committees
  • Maintain an active program of professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities
Qualifications: 
Required Qualifications:
  • Master s degree in Physics
  • Experience teaching introductory physics courses
  • Ability to develop and instruct physics courses in an interactive, student-centered format
  • Ability to develop and instruct physics laboratory courses
  • Knowledge of physics education research
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Physics
  • Experience in astronomy or biophysics/biology
  • Experience in teaching both freshman and sophomore level, calculus- and/or algebra-based physics courses
  • Ability to write and contribute to grant proposals
  • Strong background in physics education research
  • Strong interest or experience teaching physics in an interactive or laboratory based or studio format
  • Publications and presentations at physics and physics education meetings
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience working with students of culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Experience supporting underprepared students
