Assignment:
The College of Science and Mathematics and the Virgin Islands Institute for Science Education Research and Practice, with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Virgin Islands Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (VI-EPSCoR), is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Science Education to coordinate multidisciplinary general education courses, teach discipline specific courses within the College of Science and Mathematics, and work with the School of Education to ensure proper science education preparation for future teachers. The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in curriculum innovation, interdisciplinary studies and distance education, as well as teaching and scholarly excellence in their specialties, to work collaboratively to transform undergraduate STEM education and conduct transformative education research in their discipline.

UVI is seeking faculty who will ensure high academic standards in a nurturing and learner-centered environment, in keeping with our HBCU status, through scholarly research and teaching excellence. Academic programs support our land grant designation by integrating instruction with research and community service. Appointees must be able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds; serve on the University's committees; and contribute to the achievement of the University's Strategic Plan 2017- Pathways to Greatness. The faculty member will teach in the College of Science and Mathematics, participate in research activities, as well as advise undergraduate and graduate students and participate in University and Community service.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Science Education or a STEM discipline from an accredited institution is required. The ideal candidate will have: demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level; adaptability and genuine interest in teaching; and a strong commitment to teaching excellence, undergraduate research, and scholarship. All STEM areas will be considered, but preference will be given to individuals with expertise in chemistry and physics.

Compensation:
Rank and compensation will commensurate with education and experience.

Travel & Shipping:
If applicable, one-way economy airfare to St. Thomas for appointee and immediate family; and a shipping allowance based on policy will be paid by the University upon presentation of receipts.
