Pikes Peak Community College, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the foot of Pikes Peak, is a two-year, fully accredited institution of higher education offering a broad program in transfer, career and technical, and preparatory subjects, with a focus on individual student success and community needs. Present enrollment for day and evening classes is over 10,000 students on three full-service campuses in Colorado Springs.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Regular Faculty work under the direction of their respective Associate Dean/Division Dean and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College and the Department Chair's approved course outline. Regular Faculty are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.

This position will include Department Chair duties. The Department Chair shall work under the direction of the Division Dean/Associate Dean and shall assist by providing leadership in curriculum and instruction, and by supervising adjunct instructors and programs as assigned by the Dean. Department Chairs are members of the regular faculty of the college and, as such, teaching remains their primary responsibility.

Record keeping and Instructional Management
  • Conducts course assessment for all courses offered with the PHY prefix and uses to improve instruction.
  • Keeps scheduled office hours.
  • Meets classes as scheduled for prescribed time.
  • Submits required reports and documents.
  • Attends required Divisional meetings.
Professionalism
  • Seeks to maintain a high quality of instruction by remaining current on discipline specific and pedagogical issues.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in a professional manner.

Promoting Division/College Quality of Instruction
  • Assisting, as requested, with the development of the term class schedule and the college catalog.
  • Assisting with curriculum review, revision, development and implementation within the department.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of course outlines and course syllabi.
  • Assisting in textbook selection and adoption.
  • Assisting with student advising and student registration.
  • Maintaining a program advisory committee, as appropriate.
  • Assisting with college assessment and accountability as appropriate.
  • Participating in professional development activities as requested by the dean.
  • Assisting with program reviews as required by appropriate agencies, e.g., NCA.
  • Promote equal opportunity education within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
Professional Contributions
  • Serving on college discipline, department, and community committees and task forces on behalf of the college.
  • Assisting with Divisional activities as requested by the dean.
  • Assisting with student recruitment as appropriate.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of alternative modes of instructional delivery, e.g., Internet or ITV, as appropriate.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the dean, the VPIS and/or the College President.
GENERAL DUTIES
  • Recommend instructional materials, textbooks, appropriate instructional equipment, and the Library supportive reference materials
  • Promote equal opportunity education within the scope of assigned responsibilities
  • Maintain required credentials, licenses, certification as appropriate, and proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Physics
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary or college level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated Physics teaching experience in lecture and laboratory classes at the post-secondary or college level
  • Demonstrated commitment to instruction in accordance with the philosophy of the community college
  • Experience in development of course curriculum in Physics
  • Experience in academic advising duties
  • Experience in developing and participating in distance learning
  • Experience with minorities, economically disadvantaged students, learning disabled students, and students from diverse educational backgrounds
  • Experience in working as an effective team member
  • Supervisory experience at the post-secondary or college level
  • Experience scheduling classes, including developing a two-year schedule
  • Experience evaluating adjunct faculty
BEGINNING DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: ASAP

SALARY $3,444.08 gross per month
