Director, Whitaker Center for STEM Education, Associate Professor/Professor in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Marine or Environmental Science
The Director of the Whitaker Center for STEM education is the leader of a center devoted to innovation and reform of STEM education at all levels. The Director is the "keeper of the vision" and responsible for implementing the goals and objectives designed to achieve the center's mission within the broader university setting. In this capacity, the Director must work collaboratively with administrators, a national advisory board, and faculty from multiple colleges, school districts, and external agencies to design, develop, manage, and evaluate programs that support the mission. A major responsibility of this position involves working with local, state, and national agencies and groups to procure support and funding for Whitaker Center initiatives. The Director will collaborate with the Whitaker Eminent Scholar to foster synergy between teaching and research.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation techniques for STEM education initiatives; ability to design program evaluation plans; ability to effectively relate to and work with faculty from various STEM disciplines and colleges within the University; ability to effectively communicate the vision, mission and goals to all stakeholders and potential donors; skill in facilitative leadership and consensus building; ability to manage multiple budgets; ability to supervise support staff.
