Keene State College
Keene State College seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2009 to replace a retiring faculty member. The department consists of one tenure-track faculty as well as adjunct faculty and a laboratory assistant and is housed administratively in the Mathematics Department. Physics contributes to joint majors in Mathematics-Physics, Chemistry-Physics, a Physics Minor and an Engineering Transfer program as well as serving majors in Chemistry, Biology and Geology.
We seek a broadly trained Physicist and extraordinary teacher of students of varying backgrounds and abilities. The teaching load is three courses per semester involving courses that run the spectrum from College and University physics thru upper level E&M and Quantum Mechanics. Instruction in Meteorology and/or Astronomy is a plus as is experience in Engineering. Undergraduate research in a laboratory-based project is very desirable in a candidate. Physics is housed in the Science Center, an award winning facility. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated commitment to the liberal arts undergraduate academic setting.
Faculty members also have the opportunity to teach courses in the college's Integrative Studies Program, a transformational general education approach. (Learn more about the Integrative Studies Program at: http://www.keene.edu/isp/.)
Qualifications: A PhD in Physics is required. There is an expectation of participation in a full range of faculty responsibility, including college service and governance. Salary at the rank of Assistant Professor will be based on Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, and was at $55,380 minimum in fall 2008.
