GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff and instructional administrators to provide high quality services to our district, our community, and most importantly to our students. This is a full-time, regular contract position beginning in Fall Semester, August 2013. Appointment is contingent upon funding and Board approval.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Physics program provides a standard core of lower division engineering and physics courses to prepare students to transfer to a four-year university to complete an engineering or science bachelors degree. We also offer physics courses to fulfill general education requirements and self-enrichment goals.
The Physics Program, in collaboration with the Engineering program, offers a wide range of student activities and clubs, which include TEC (The Engineers Club), WISE (Women In Science and Engineering), SWE (Society of Women Engineers), and the Physics Club. Each year, we also bring the students together for various engineering and physics events and activities including a job shadow program, fieldtrips, transfer workshops, and special projects. Even more activities and support are offered through SRJCs MESA Program (Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement).
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The teaching assignment may include any of the Calculus, Algebra and Conceptual-based Physics courses offered by the program, including a combination of lecture and laboratory sections. SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including on-line. The district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and assignment could involve any combination of day or evening classes with weekly office hours being mandatory.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Masters degree in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics OR Bachelors degree in Physics or Astronomy AND a Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Meteorology, or Geophysics; OR the equivalent; OR possession of California Community College Instructors Credential in Physics or Optics. Requires a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college students.

Preferred:
  • Prior experience teaching lower division college Physics lectures and laboratories.
  • Masters Degree in Physics.If you do not possess the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above, you must file for equivalency. If claiming equivalency, applicants are responsible for documenting all coursework, degree programs and related professional experience at time of application.
    The instructor is required to participate in the basic departmental functions such as department meetings, any student club activities or award ceremonies. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field and for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including including development or improvement of laboratory experiments and courses that serve community needs, such as short-term, non-credit, or on-line courses); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes; and participating in department activities, departmental and college-wide committees, and community outreach on behalf of the college. Teaching formats include face-to-face and online, utilizing a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology.

    5. Copies of transcripts of all college level course work. Unofficial copies (both sides) are acceptable, but official transcripts must be submitted prior to hiring. If transcripts are from an institution outside of the United States, applicants must provide a formal evaluation of their foreign degree(s) at the time of application.
