General Function The Instructor is a member of the ranked faculty whose duties require effectiveness in teaching, a commitment to staying current with their discipline and appropriate pedagogies, and a willingness to serve the academic unit, college and/or University. The Instructor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. Effective January 1 2007, the Instructor rank is a tenure-track appointment only for faculty appointed by the two-year open admissions campus at West Plains and the Greenwood Laboratory School.
Description of Primary Duties Greenwood is a laboratory school with Missouri State University with approximately 375 students in grades K-12. Primary responsibility is to teach secondary science classes (grades 7-12), including Biology, in an inquiry based approach implementing resources from the Web via a SmartBoard, knowledge/use of Blackboard, arrange a summer science academy and participate in science contests. Greenwood faculty are expected to contribute to the function of a lab school and support the goals and mission of Greenwood and the University. Other responsibilities include working with the public affairs initiative, parents, college students, faculty, staff and other duties inherent to working in a K-12 school as assigned. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Instructor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Additional Qualifications Required: Masters degree in Education, or completion of masters degree within one year of hire, certification in Biology, full-time secondary science teaching experience including Biology, eligible for Missouri Teacher Certificate, technology skills including use/knowledge of SmartBoard, websites, digital instructional materials and scholarly potential.
