Job Description
Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) is accepting
applications for a nine-month Physics faculty position in the School of
Science, Mathematics, and Health Professions beginning the Fall 2013
semester.
Responsibilities include teaching college level courses in Physics. The required teaching load is 15 credits per semester, which may include face-to-face and hybrid/distance-learning courses during the day and evening, weekdays, and weekends. The Physics Instructor will work collaboratively with other faculty members to implement Physics concepts in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) framework.
In addition to teaching, all faculty members advise students, serve on college committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college. Such activities may include, but are not limited to: departmental meetings and curriculum planning, programmatic assessment, course and program evaluation, community service, club sponsorship, student recruitment and retention activities, and mentoring new and part-time faculty.
Candidates selected for an interview will conduct a 10-minute teaching session on a pre-selected topic; electronic classroom facilities are available for delivery of the teaching session. Additional details will be provided at the time interviews are scheduled.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Master's Degree
with 18 graduate semester hours in Physics; strong communication skills,
and experience using technology in the classroom. Knowledge of STEM
philosophies and concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral Degree in Physics; full or part-time experience
teaching in a college setting, preferably a community college, with
experience teaching general Physics or related courses. Experience
implementing Physics concepts in a collaborative, STEM framework.
