Montgomery College (Maryland), Rockville Campus, is seeking a Physics faculty member to fill a position beginning fall 2013.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Assignment begins August, 2013.  Online applications must be received by Monday, March 4, 2013.
Starting salary range is $46,521 - $67,971 per academic year, FY2013.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit and requires payment of dues or a service fee.
 
Physics  Full-time Faculty - Position #F02390 – Rockville Campus.

 Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach 30 semester hours per academic year of courses related to Physics.
  • Teach both lecture and laboratory classes in the areas of introductory and calculus based physics.
  • Faculty member may be asked to teach physics/physical science courses.
  • Faculty member must be willing to occasionally participate in club sponsorships and/or overnight field trips.
  • Mentoring engineering students, and also be an effective student advocate, particularly for students who are transferring to 4-year institutions to complete their engineering degrees.
  • Mentoring, advising, articulation and proactively arranging for scholarship/ research or internship opportunities for students at Montgomery College and other four year institutions is expected.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections, or possibly be asked to teach on another campus if needed.  Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
  • Serve on, or lead, department, discipline, campus and college committees, and advise students.
  • Maintain an active program of professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Physics.
  • Experience teaching calculus based and algebra based physics sequence courses
  • Ability to develop and instruct physics courses in an interactive or laboratory based studio format.
  • Ability to develop and instruct physics laboratory courses.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
  
 Additional Requirements:
Prior to being selected for an interview, you may be required to submit unofficial transcripts to the search committee for review.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Ph.D. in Physics
  • College level teaching experience
  • Experience in teaching both freshman and sophomore level physics courses.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Experience teaching calculus based and algebra based physics sequence courses at the college level.
  • Ability to write and contribute to grant proposals.
  • Strong background in physics education, including a clear research program in physics pedagogy.
  • Strong interest or a research background or experience in teaching physics in an interactive or laboratory based or studio format.
  • Have publications and presentations at physics and physics education organizations.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience working with students of culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Experience supporting underprepared students.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission.
