WSU invites you to join our Community of Learners as an Assistant Professor of Physics. This position is a probationary/tenure track appointment starting August 17, 2015. As a faculty member, you will be responsible for teaching the Science Methods class(es) for secondary science pre-service teaching majors and assessing the effectiveness of these courses as well as the science teacher preparation programs at WSU. Additional duties include: (1) participating in the teaching of Investigative Science I; an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary science-content class designed for pre-service elementary teaching majors; (2) teaching and developing undergraduate physics courses for both the Physics major and General Education; (3) developing, conducting and supervising projects and research activities with undergraduates; (4) advising and mentoring physics majors; (5) maintaining scholarly activities and professional development appropriate for a tenure-track position; (6) providing service to the college, university, and community that is commensurate with expertise; (7) contributing to student growth and development; (8) assisting in recruiting students to the university and to the physics department; and (9) contributing to accreditation (presently including NCATE and the state Board of Teaching) related to science education programs.
Qualifications for this position are: (1) a Ph.D. in Physics or closely related field OR a terminal degree in Science Education with significant experience in physics or closely related field by August 2015; and (2) at least one year of 9-12 (high school) science classroom teaching experience. Preferred qualifications include: (1) the interest and ability to teach effectively across the undergraduate physics curriculum; (2) experience teaching high school science in the United States, and (3) an interest in preparing future teachers.
