Jackson State University (JSU), a historically black college and university (HBCU), is one of the four State-supported doctoral, research universities in Mississippi with an enrollment of 9,500 students. JSU is located in Jackson, the Capital City of the State of Mississippi with a population of 400,000 in the metropolitan area. JSU is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as one of 99 Research Universities with High Research Activities. The Department of Physics is one of the nine academic departments in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET). CSET has over 2,400 students and 124 full-time faculty members. The College is poised to become one of the prominent science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) colleges in the country. 

The Department of Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, and Geoscience has three degree granting programs consisting of B.S. degrees in: Physics, Meteorology and Earth Systems Science. The Department is seeking applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin January 5, 2015. We seek a candidate with a strong desire to teach and conduct research in the field of experimental physics. A successful candidate must be able to effectively convey concepts of physics to undergraduate students from an introductory to advanced level. The candidate must start an energy related research program. The candidate must have a PhD in Physics or a closely related field as well as a record of teaching excellence and research productivity appropriate to appointment.
