PHYSICS INSTRUCTOR
(Based on Tishomingo Campus)
General Description/Primary Purpose
The Physics Instructor will teach college level courses and perform essential job functions as listed below.
Classification: Full-Time Faculty
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.
Appointment: 10 Month Appointment

General Job Functions:
Instructional Duties
1. Demonstrate scholarly standards of academic excellence and rigor, and exhibit the traits befitting that of a distinguished faculty member.
2. Demonstrate experience and/or willingness to learn and use state-of-the-art technology in the delivery of instruction and other office duties.
3. Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity as it impacts curricula and instructional practices and show a willingness to work effectively in a culturally diverse workplace and not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, age, religion, disability, political beliefs, or status as a veteran.
4. Support the mission of the college.
5. Maintain a positive working environment with supervisors, co-workers, students and other members of the MSC community.
6. Participate in community service activities and programs.
7. Promote and support service learning activities.
8. Develop and use assessment of student learning methods at least every two weeks and contribute to campus-wide assessment projects.
9. Use appropriate evaluation instruments to measure student progress at specified intervals.
10. Maintain in coordination with other department faculty (adjunct and fulltime) an up-to-date, complete, and well-organized syllabus for each course taught as set forth by the VPAA.
11. Develop and maintain curricula that appropriately reflect current knowledge in the discipline.
12. Cooperate with departmental faculty in the selection of textbooks and teaching materials.
13. Maintain a minimum of ten scheduled office hours. Provide flexible office hours by appointment to accommodate students' schedules when necessary.
14. Include a writing component in each course and encourage students to utilize the "Help Center".
15. Incorporate the use of the MSC library in all courses and make recommendations for library purchases.
16. Assist in recommending purchases and maintaining an accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies.
17. Actively support clubs and extra-curricular activities.
18. Serve on and contribute to campus-wide committees.
19. Support the President's Scholars Program.
20. Implement strategies to enhance college recruitment, retention, and graduation rates.
21. Participate in applicable professional development activities, including the All Employee Meetings.
22. Carry out assigned duties and responsibilities and duties associated with the annual interscholastic contest.
23. Following institutional policy, efficiently use a work study position(s) (when available) to help in the accomplishment of other general responsibilities.
24. Serve as a mentor to adjunct faculty.
25. Attain ability to commute to distance learning sites.
26. Participate in strategic planning initiatives (including TaskStream) and align instructional, program, and departmental goals with the MSC Strategic Plan.
27. Contribute to the overall institutional focus to perpetuate student success.
28. Support the institutional General Education program.
29. Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisors.
Specific Job Functions:
1. Teach a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in courses that will include a combination of the following courses: General Physical Science; General Physics I; General Physics II, Engineering Physics I, and Engineering Physics II. There will also the opportunities to create additional courses to support new degree programs.
2. The Physics instructor may be asked to teach additional courses depending on changes to degree programs and student enrollment.
3. Attend professional development for inquiry-based teaching methodology and incorporate those methodologies into the curriculum.
4. Participate in departmental activities that encourage students (high school and college) to pursue STEM degree programs such as robotics competitions, Science Olympiad, and Summer STEM Academy.
5. Teach assigned courses in accordance with catalog descriptions, based on approved syllabi, and aligned with equivalent courses at our regional peer institutions.
6. Develop and maintain a curriculum, which appropriately reflects current knowledge in the discipline. The curriculum should take into consideration cultural diversity, critical thinking, and quantitative reasoning.
7. Establish and assess learning objectives for each course and document the results in Taskstream.
8. Work with other faculty teaching Physical Science and Physics to maintain curricular consistency across sections on both the Ardmore and Tishomingo campuses.
9. Organize and maintain the Physics labs and lab equipment on the Tishomingo and Ardmore campuses.
10. Organize and maintain the equipment inventory and MSDS sheets.
11. Follow proper safety procedures with respect to experiments and disposal of chemicals.
12. Serve as a graduation advisor students in Physics, Engineering, and other science-related degree programs.
13. Support MSC student's organization (i.e. NICHE) activities.
14. Actively participate in recruiting activities organized by the MSC Outreach Coordinator.
15. Assist in the development of new Physical Science and Physics curriculum.
16. Participate in institution committees.
17. Use technology, such as interactive television or video capture, to deliver instruction to off-campus sites as necessary.
18. Develop multimedia presentations for classroom instruction as well as provide students with hybrid learning opportunities to supplement instruction.
19. Create and maintain a positive learning environment.
20. Maintain and revise official syllabi every semester.
21. Attend and participate in faculty professional development.
22. Upon employment the successful candidate must complete mandatory NIMS (National Incident Management System) training modules, IS-100 HE and IS-700a, through the Department of Homeland Security as directed by the MSC administrative staff and campus police.

8. Demonstrate support of the community service mission of the college by organizing and hosting appropriate seminars, lectures, camps, etc.
9. Demonstrate experience of or training in working effectively in a culturally diverse workplace and / or serving clientele from a variety of racial and cultural backgrounds.
Other Ergonomic Requirements:
The position of Physics Instructor requires some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying, other movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform the movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how satisfactory performance of the essential functions can be achieved.
Hours:
Generally, weekday (Monday through Friday) hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours). Evening classes will be assigned as needed on the MSC Tishomingo and Ardmore campuses. In the event of evening classes, release time will be scheduled during the normal workday. Other professional activities may be scheduled in accordance with college policy and in cooperation with the Office of Academic Affairs. There will be occasions when faculty responsibilities require work beyond these hours.
Qualification Standards:
1. Minimum Educational Qualifications: A Master's degree in Science, Education, or Engineering with experience teaching Physics.
2. Preferred Experience:
a. Minimum of one year successful teaching experience at either the High School or College level.
b. Master's degree in Physics or Engineering.
3. Image: MSC employees are expected to maintain a neat, well-groomed, and professional image at all times while performing their responsibilities. All faculty members must follow the departmental dress code.
4. Background Check: The successful candidate must give permission to have a formal background check conducted prior to employment for this position.
