The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Department of Physics is accepting applications for one open rank faculty position to begin in the fall of 2015. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction within the undergraduate and graduate programs in Physics, establishing and conducting research, and scholarship activities serving the college and university
The Physics Department has strong research focus on gravitational wave astronomy, radio astronomy, optical astronomy, applied optics and lasers, nanotechnology, nanophotonics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, computational physics and physics education. There are six state-of-the-art laboratories funded by the NSF,NASA, US Air Force and NIH. The department offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and cooperative PhD degree in partnership with the University of Texas, Arlington.
The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American making it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.
Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

Candidates from all areas of physics are invited, however, the preference will be given to applicants from experimental or applied physics areas. The duties will include teaching physics at both graduate and undergraduate levels, conducting research in the area of expertise, and participating in academic service and service to the community. The successful candidate is expected to build a strong research program on campus, be able to attract extramural funding to support this research, and supervise graduate students in the current M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Strong record of independent publications is desirable. Externally funded research and student support are considered a plus.
Candidates must meet the institutional requirements for tenure to be considered for the position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
