Physics Advising/Recruiting/Outreach Specialist, Central Washington Univ WA

The Physics Department at Central Washington University seeks a dynamic individual with excellent organization and communication skills and a background in physics to help recruit, advise, and track students in our program. The expected start date is September 1, 2015.
The responsibilities of this administrative exempt position include academic advising and career counseling to students seeking a degree in the Department of Physics; recruiting talented students and maintaining the department’s web page and social media; coordinating public outreach activities; establishing and maintaining connections with alumni, funding agencies and employers; and working with high school physics teachers and teaching occasional introductory level classes.

The Physics department at CWU has experienced significant growth in the past few years, largely due to award-winning, student-centered faculty, innovative curricula, and a long-term commitment to implementing recommendations of the AAPT SPIN-UP report. The department has eight tenured/TT faculty, as well as two full time instructional technicians, serving over 60 majors. A new facility to house the department, scheduled for occupancy in 2016, will include Scale-Up classrooms, a 80-seat planetarium, and an observatory. The department also hosts an exceptionally active, award-winning Society of Physics Students chapter and astronomy club.
