Anne McLaren Fellowships at the University of Nottingham

Applications are invited for The University of Nottingham Anne McLaren Fellowships, which are targeted at exceptional female scientists and engineers who are typically under-represented in these subjects, and wish to establish a research career in the UK. The Fellowships are a recognised first step into an independent research career, and are funded by the University of Nottingham's Research and Knowledge Transfer Board. With the ongoing development of the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL) in Lead, South Dakota, our department is expanding into research areas related to neutrino physics, neutrinoless double beta decay, direct detection of dark matter, nuclear astrophysics, proton decay, and related experiments requiring deep underground shielding and low-background counting. We are looking for a dynamic researcher interested in establishing collaborations with faculty across various departments of science and engineering. The successful candidate will join a strong existing group in soft condensed matter theory and statistical physics and several active experimentalists in areas ranging from cellular biophysics to NEMS and quantum computing. Computational research at Syracuse includes gravitational wave astronomy, high energy physics, and condensed matter physics. These groups operate several large scale computational clusters. Synergistic research activities also exist in the departments of biomedical and chemical engineering and in chemistry. Job Description: Plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Teach the full range of freshman and sophomore Physics courses. Advise students in academic matters. Evaluate students by a variety of means to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform them in a timely manner of their progress. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Work with students outside of classroom as needed and remain accessible to them through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods. Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Develop and use a syllabus for each course within college and departmental guidelines. Post syllabus online for each course, each semester. Review, evaluate, and recommend student learning materials.
