TT at Hendrix College, AR

The Department of Physics at Hendrix College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2014.  Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely-related field; post-doctoral experience is desirable.  The ideal candidate will be expected to teach across all levels of the physics curriculum and participate in the interdisciplinary course for first-year students, The Engaged Citizen (www.hendrix.edu/TheEngagedCitizen/), every few years.  Providing opportunities for engaged learning is a core mission of the College, cf. the Odyssey program (lww.hendrix.edu/Odyssey/).  The physics department primarily supports this mission through the involvement of undergraduates in scientific research.  The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a sustainable research program involving undergraduates.  The area of research is open but an experimental program is strongly preferred.  Lab space and start-up funds will be provided. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of research plans, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation.  Review of applications will begin 1 November and continue until the position is filled.  Send all materials to Dr. Damon Spayde; Chair, Physics Search Committee; Hendrix College; 1600 Washington Ave.; Conway, AR  72032-3080.  Questions may be directed to Dr. Spayde via physicssearch@hendrix.edu or 501-450-1251.
