The Department of Physics at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio,
anticipates an opening for a tenure track appointment at the Assistant
Professor level beginning in the Fall of 2014. A Ph. D. is required
along with a commitment to undergraduate teaching and research in a
Jesuit liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will teach both
lecture and laboratory courses and will be expected to carry out a
successful research program that involves undergraduates. Start up funds
will be provided, and the use of a scanning-probe microscope,
evaporative/sputter deposition system, and an electrical transport
properties measurement system will be available if needed. An
experimentalist with experience in solid-state physics is preferred.

The Physics Department at Xavier University presently has 5 full time
faculty, 3 full time instructors, and 1 full time laboratory support
services manager. The department graduates on average 8 physics majors
per year, many of whom go on to graduate programs in physics and related
