Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or other related fields. In lieu of the Master's Degree, a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or other related fields and two years of directly related full-time experience may be considered. Three years of full-time experience conducting materials or geotechnical evaluations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to design and plan experiments and assist faculty in conducting laboratory activities. Ability to advise students on the use of equipment and materials in laboratory settings. Ability to maintain sophisticated equipment in an Engineering laboratory. Ability to provide assistance in the development of recommendations for laboratory improvements. Excellent computer skills on both hardware and software.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with undergraduate students. Experience in a laboratory environment with some oversight of safety and materials testing experience. Professional Engineering License.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Instructional Support Specialist will oversee and manage instructional laboratories in the Civil Engineering Program, as well as assist in teaching lab courses. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining equipment in the civil engineering laboratories, supporting courses, supporting senior design projects, faculty research projects, and assisting with other lab courses as needed. The selected candidate will:
� Design and plan experiments and assist faculty in conducting laboratory activities. Make sure that lab equipment works properly and that necessary materials and supplies are prepared. Provide support to students during lab sessions.
� Maintain the sophisticated and critical equipment in the CE laboratories. Make sure that all the equipment in the laboratories are in working condition. Develop recommendations for laboratory improvements.
� Help students with their course projects. Teach students how to operate laboratory equipment for their projects. Operate laboratory equipment for students when necessary. Monitor students while they work with laboratory equipment for safety.
� Assist faculty and students with their research projects. Design and build research devices based on specifications from faculty and students. For example, assisting students with their senior design projects, including but not limited to, concrete canoe and steel bridge activities.
� Developing, implementing and maintaining safety standards, safety policies and controls for the laboratories.
� Other duties as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
