TT and 2-yr VAP at Calvin College

Faculty Openings: Physics and Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Calvin College invites applications for two full-time faculty appointments, pending administrative approval, one on a tenure track and the other on a two-year term.
About the positions
A Ph.D. degree in physics or astronomy is required for the tenure-track position and is preferred for the term position, although applicants holding Masters degrees will be considered in the latter case. Candidates should have outstanding promise as classroom teachers and undergraduate research mentors. Applicants in all specialties will be considered, but preference will be given to those who have experimental expertise and can either make use of our observatory as a research tool or further our existing programs in experimental AMO physics. Pending final administrative approval, the appointments will begin August 2014.
About the department and the college
The department offers majors and minors in physics and minors in astronomy and optics; cognate courses for programs in engineering, education, and the health sciences; and introductory courses in the college’s core curriculum. Each member of the department maintains an active program of undergraduate research or professional service. Calvin College seeks faculty who affirm the Christian faith as expressed by the Reformed confessions and who have academic and personal qualifications for teaching and scholarship. Calvin is building a tradition of diversity and accessibility and welcomes applications from persons whose personal characteristics will further that commitment. Calvin does not discriminate in the employment of individuals on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, disability, sex, or age. Further specifics are posted on the college website http://www.calvin.edu/go/facultyopenings.
Application process
Each applicant should submit a CV and a letter addressing his or her teaching philosophy and experience, research plans, and interest in teaching at a Christian college.  These two items should be combined in a single pdf file and sent as an email attachment to physicssearch@calvin.edu. Additional information, including academic transcripts and letters of recommendation, may be requested during the review process.
Review of applications will begin November 1, 2013 and continue until the positions are filled.
