Tenure-Track Instructor Position Physics and Astronomy Innovative teaching will help the University of Calgary meet its strategic goal to become one of Canada's top five research universities by 2016, where state-of-the-art teaching and groundbreaking research go hand in hand, and where we fully engage the communities we both serve and lead. The strategy is called Eyes High, inspired by the university's Gaelic motto, which translates as 'I will lift up my eyes.' In pursuit of this goal, the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites national and international applications for a tenure-track, instructor-stream, faculty position at the instructor level. The successful candidate will be required to teach a range of physics courses, including large introductory-level courses covering the topics of mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and thermal physics. The position will also include the possibility of teaching other topics at the junior and senior undergraduate levels. Instructor-stream faculty workload also includes participation in our pedagogical, course, and program development efforts. Specific courses and academic duties within these fields will be assigned by the Department Head based on the teaching needs of the Department. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Physics or closely-related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of teaching experience and those that possess a broad knowledge of Physics education pedagogy. Activity in the field of Physics Education Research is not required but could be viewed as a positive inclusion in an applicant's file. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning and a desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom.
