The Departments of Chemistry/Physics and Education at Belmont University
are seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty, STEM Assistant
Professor who will teach science education courses and chemistry or
physics to begin August 2014.
Job responsibilities include
twelve hours of undergraduate per semester as well as other departmental
and university responsibilities. Successful candidates will
demonstrate excellent teaching ability, an interest in teaching a wide
variety of topics in Chemistry, Physics and/or Engineering and a
commitment to scholarship. An interdisciplinary STEM background is also
preferred particularly in the delivery of integrated STEM curriculum
with a range of diverse learners. The purpose of this position is to
provide leadership by fostering excellence in STEM education and
displaying outstanding teaching qualities and scholarship in the
disciplines of chemistry, physics and education, therefore, this
position
expects knowledge and experience with NSTA standards of science, CAEP
standards, and Common Core Science standards as well as expertise in
PBL and Inquiry learning. An interest or experience in engaging students
in undergraduate research will be considered favorably, as will
teaching experience at the university level. An earned doctorate in
Physics Education, Engineering Education, Chemistry Education or Science
Education (with extensive coursework in Chemistry, Physics and/or
Engineering) is expected at the time of employment. Secondary teaching
experience (three years minimum) is required and a teaching licensure is
preferred. Since all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative
general education program with significant interdisciplinary components,
