The School of Natural and Social Sciences/Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (PSCM) at Wayne State College (www.wsc.edu) seeks a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor.

Assistant Professor:  Qualifications include a terminal degree in physical sciences or a related field from an accredited institution (Ph.D. or Ed.D).

A terminal degree, either possessed or earned during employment, will be necessary to be eligible for eventual tenure.  All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities: The WSC PSCM faculty is committed to quality teaching and preference will be given to applicants that share this commitment.  Teaching will be the primary responsibility of the successful candidate and will include courses across the physical science curriculum.

These courses may include but are not limited to:

    Teaching general education science courses
    Teaching science content for elementary education majors

In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunities to teach educated perspective general education courses and teach or do research in field of specialization.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruitment and retention, serving on college committees, performing scholarly, professional, and community service within the college and across the Wayne State College service area.

The School of Natural and Social Sciences comprises 75 full and part-time faculty and staff organized in five academic departments housed in three buildings. In addition to serving more than 50 academic programs, the School is responsible to overseeing a number of activities to benefit the College and the region, including the Fred G. Dale Planetarium, the A. Jewell Schock Museum of Natural History, a Human Performance Laboratory, and a Wellness Program.

The Physical Sciences and Mathematics Department consists of faculty in mathematics, chemistry, earth sciences, and physics. It offers many programs of study including: secondary education for mathematics and science, mathematics (pure & applied), chemistry, and pre-professional programs (pharmacy, medicine, architecture, and engineering). The department strives to create a complete and quality educational experience in mathematics and the physical sciences for all students by constantly improving teaching, programs, and facilities. The department is housed in the beautifully remodeled and updated Carhart Science Building. Members of the department serve as role models for professional and civic activities.
