Position Description
Teach undergraduate
courses in the Physics Department, with an emphasis on algebra-based
physics, general education, and supervision of lab sections. Serve on
college-wide and departmental committees as needed, attend regular
faculty meetings, maintain regular office hours, contribute to
departmental curriculum assessment efforts, and perform other related
tasks as assigned by the Department Chair or other upper administrative
personnel.
Qualifications
Required: 18 hours of graduate course work in physics.
Preferred:
Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level; Ph.D. in physics
or related field, including science education; a record of, active
participation in the American Association of Physics Teachers or
equivalent; experience with curriculum design; and experience
collaborating with K-12 teachers.
The successful
candidate will be: familiar with instructional reforms based on physics
education research including the Learning Assistant model; committed to
making physics accessible for a wide variety of students with diverse
learning needs and professional goals; and enthusiastic about discussing
instruction with other department faculty and about trying
instructional innovations.
