In pursuit of this goal, the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track, instructor-stream, faculty position at the instructor level. The successful candidate will be required to teach a range of physics and/or astronomy/astrophysics courses, including large introductory-level courses covering the topics of mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermal physics and/or general astronomy. The position will also include the possibility of teaching other topics on Physics and Astrophysics at the junior and senior undergraduate levels. Instructor-stream faculty workload also includes participation in our pedagogical, course, and program development efforts. Specific courses and academic duties within these fields will be assigned by the Department Head based on the teaching needs of the Department.
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Physics or closely-related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of teaching experience and those that possess a broad knowledge of Physics education pedagogy. Activity in the field of Physics Education Research is not required but could be viewed as a positive inclusion in an applicant's file. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning and a desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom.
