Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Science Education or related field is required. The ideal candidate will have previous K-12
experience teaching experience, will conduct research in Science Education, and will have with experience in
secondary education credential preparation and/or professional development. The candidate should have
teaching and research expertise that would allow them to have an administrative home in one of the College of
Science departments (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics and Statistics,
Meteorology and Climate Science, or Physics and Astronomy). Candidates who are familiar with California
credentialing process, and Next Generation Science Standards are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates
should be familiar with a variety of teaching techniques and emerging technologies for instruction. Applicants
should have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have
been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience. Secondary education
teaching experience strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach courses in Science Education that are required for earning a teaching
credential in all science fields by the Single Subject Credential Program, upon recommendation of the College
of Science’s Science Education Program. Science Education teaching assignments will include Secondary
School Science (Methods) and/or Colloquium, a seminar for assisting teacher candidates with PACT
(Performance Assessment for California Teachers) preparation. In addition, the successful candidate will
manage and support supervisors who work with our student teachers and their mentors in a collaborative student
teaching model. Direct student teacher supervision may also be required. The successful candidate may also
teach graduate level courses associated with Science Education’s MA program, and/or service courses for
teacher professional development. The successful applicant will: participate in committees and advising for the
Science Education Program. The successful candidate will engage in science education or related research. The
candidate is expected to successfully obtain external grant funding for his or her research program. The
successful candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in major/degree
program, age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course
materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
