Full-time Faculty Position 

One-year position with potential for one-year extension 

POSITION:

Olympic College is recruiting a full-time applied physics faculty to join the physics team at the college's Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF) campus, in downtown Bremerton. The four course, experimentally focused, algebra-based Physics sequence is the foundation discipline for the college's Industrial Trades Technician Associate in Technical Arts Degree, offered to apprentices, in partnership with PSNS & IMF, in the Business and Technology Division. There are five eight week sessions per year. This will be a one-year position, beginning fall quarter 2015, with the potential for one-year extensions. The textbooks may be accessed at:

SALARY:
  • Per Olympic College Board of Trustees approved salary schedule based on education and qualified experience.

Examples of Duties:

TYPICAL WORK:
  • Teach Physics course(s) in accordance with college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, course syllabi, and any departmental guidelines
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation and grading
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms as required
  • Provide academic advising and assessment for students
  • Hold office hours for student consultation
  • Attend faculty, department, and division meetings and serve on appropriate committees
  • May include evening instruction
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree or equivalent in physics or related discipline
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College teaching experience

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • This is a full-time, one-year, faculty position with the potential for one-year extensions. 
  • May require evening, night, and weekend teaching assignments
  • Must be able to gain security clearance to work in a controlled industrial area, including a criminal background check.
  • Official college transcripts required if hired
  • Must pass a criminal background records check
  • May be required to provide instruction at a satellite Olympic College campus
  • If hired you will need to provide proof of identity and documentation of U.S. citizenship or appropriate authorization to work in this full-time position as required by the Immigration Reform Control Act of 1986
WORKING CONDITIONS:

This job requires punctual and regular attendance. This position is in a typical classroom and student laboratory environment and may require the employee to move across campus to other buildings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position. Must be able to make one's way, up to ½ mile, through an industrial setting and/or rough terrain to reach job site. The employee may be required to lift and carry equipment and supplies of up to 30 pounds.

Olympic College Poulsbo is a 20-acre campus located in North Kitsap County providing convenience for students from Bainbridge Island and the northern part of the Kitsap Peninsula. A variety of credit and non-credit courses are available.

Olympic College Shelton is a 27-acre campus located in Mason County. The facility has computer labs, a media center, student services, study and social areas, and the Johnson Library.
