Physical Science Lecturer, University of New England



The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of New England invites applications for a full-time Assistant Lecturer position to teach introductory level courses in chemistry and physics, to begin August 2015.  

The Department seeks an individual who will provide high quality educational experiences for UNE students, who is current in their discipline, and who is generous with their time in activities that make their professional community, the University, the College of Arts and Sciences, and their Departments highly functional organizations.  At minimum, a Master’s degree in Chemistry or closely related Physical Science field is required by the time of appointment.  Prior teaching experience is desirable.

Teaching responsibilities will principally include General Chemistry laboratory courses in the Fall semester.  Spring semester responsibilities will comprise two courses developed for undergraduates in the College of Health Sciences, namely:  the Principles of Chemistry lecture and laboratory course, and the Introduction to Chemistry and Physics lecture and laboratory course. 



Facilities and Equipment

The Department of Chemistry and Physics is located primarily in Morgane Hall (opened 2009) which houses faculty offices, the general chemistry, biochemistry and physics teaching laboratories, and two faculty research laboratories.  The Department has high quality laboratory space for both teaching and research and is well equipped with modern instrumentation.  The university also boasts a new Center for Teaching and Learning (CETL), which will support all faculty members in the pursuits of instruction-related professional development activities.

Chemistry
Chemistry/Secondary Education
Biochemistry
Laboratory Science

The Department also offers two minor programs, one in Chemistry and the other in Biophysics 


Faculty

The Department of Chemistry and Physics has an energetic faculty actively engaged in teaching, program development, and undergraduate research. The Department includes eight tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics, seven lecturer faculty across the three disciplines, two Laboratory Assistants, and a full-time Administrative Assistant.  Current faculty members specialize in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic/medicinal chemistry, physical organic/photochemistry, physical chemistry/computational chemistry and atomic force microscopy/nanotechnology.  For more detailed information please visit our research web page: http://www.une.edu/cas/chemistry/beyond-class/research as well as the UNE undergraduate research web page http://www.une.edu/cas/research.

Location

The University has campuses in Biddeford and Portland, Maine, and a new (opened 2014) campus in Tangier, Morocco. The Department's courses are offered on the Biddeford campus, with over 4,000 feet of waterfront where the Saco River meets the Atlantic Ocean.  Biddeford is located about 20 miles south of Portland and approximately 90 miles from Boston, Massachusetts, in an area that offers a wide range of recreational and cultural opportunities.
