The Saint Olaf College Physics Department invites applicants for two Visiting Assistant Professor positions for Academic Year 2015-2016. One position is a full time (1.0 FTE, six courses) term appointment for the academic year, starting Aug. 17, 2015. The other position is a part-time (0.5 FTE, three courses) term appointment for spring semester, starting Feb. 1, 2016.
Primary Responsibilities (each position): Teach a combination of lecture and laboratory courses in physics with a load of 6 course-equivalents for the full-year position and 3 course equivalents for the half-year position. Both positions are likely to include a variety of teaching assignments, such as introductory physics for non-majors, first or second-year courses for majors, advanced laboratory sections, an elective course in the major and/or general education course. Experience teaching Musical Acoustics to a general audience is desirable but not required.
Qualifications: Ph. D. in physics (or in a closely related field with a strong physics foundation) and demonstrated potential for excellent teaching in a residential liberal arts college setting. We seek motivated teachers who will thrive in an environment where close collaboration with students is the norm. Strong candidates nearing completion of the Ph. D. may also be considered for appointment at the rank of visiting instructor.
