Position SummaryThis is a fixed-term instructor position. The person hired into this position will teach introductory courses in Physics, Astronomy, and/or Physical Science. The position also includes the possibility of service work within the Physics Department, including service on departmental standing committees.
Required Qualifications1) A Ph.D. or ABD-status in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field
2) Effective written and verbal communication skills
3) Teaching experience at least at the level of a graduate teaching assistant
Preferred QualificationsTeaching experience beyond that of a graduate TA

About the DepartmentThe CMU Physics Department has 14 regular faculty and approximately 30 undergraduate majors and 20 graduate students. The department offers the B.S. and B.S. in Education degree programs to its undergraduate students and the M.S. degree in physics. Department faculty members also participate in the Science of Advanced Materials Ph.D. program. The department offers new teachers of physics and astronomy a supportive environment in which high quality instruction is valued.
