St. Louis College of Pharmacy invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant/associate professor level to teach Physics starting Fall 2016. Ph.D. is required. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty at the College in the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of physics courses associated with two new B.S. programs in Health Sciences and in Health Humanities in preparation for the Pharm.D. curriculum. Candidates with experience in active learning methods and interest in physics education research, particularly in the area of Introductory Physics for the Life Sciences (IPLS), are encouraged to apply. This is an academic-year (9-month) appointment.
Responsibility :
- Teach required introductory, algebra-based, physics courses for the B.S. programs in Health Sciences and Health Humanities; provide lab instruction in at least one lab each semester; develop an advanced level elective course.
- Develop an active research agenda in an area of physics specialization and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning in physics (particularly related to Introductory Physics for the Life Sciences (IPLS)). Limited start-up funds will be provided. There will be opportunities to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of experienced researchers from other disciplines.
- Provide service to the College through academic advising of students, advising of undergraduate student organizations, participating in professional organizations, and influencing policy through service on Departmental and College-wide committees.
Education :
- A Ph.D. in physics, or in a biomedically related field with a master's degree in physics.
- Ability to teach courses covering topics of introductory college physics.
- At least one to two years of prior teaching experience (which can include graduate teaching assistantships) with a preference for experience teaching in an active learning curriculum.
- Promise of assuming an active and sustained research agenda in the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or the candidate's area of specialty with a preference for biologically related research.
- Strong interpersonal skills coupled with outstanding communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with a team committed to excellence in student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated support for diversity and inclusion; the ability to incorporate diversity, cultural competency or social justice into teaching, research, or service is desired.
- Willingness to teach in an ability-based education model using active, student-centered learning methodologies, preference for experience using assessment for course and program improvement.
