Job Description:
The Department of Physics offers a major with several different concentrations, a minor, a major through the popular 3-2 Cooperative Engineering program, an initial certification to teach physics in secondary school, an interdisciplinary major in Mathematics-Physics, a major in Industrial Management, and courses to complement majors in other areas.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES
Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:
  • Teach Astronomy, a two-semester algebra-based College Physics sequence, courses within the physics major, and general education courses;
  • Serve as the primary operator of a newly installed 17'' Planewave telescope, train students in its use, and coordinate public viewings and outreach;
  • Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;
  • Provide academic advisement to students;
  • Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Astronomy or Astrophysics by August 2016;
  • Demonstrated evidence of potential for excellent teaching and scholarship;
  • Demonstrated commitment to directing the Fredonia observatory including public outreach;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking;
  • Practical proposed plan to involve undergraduates in research;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission;
  • Experience with instructional technology;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, term appointed, tenure track position beginning August 2016.
