Announces Post Doctoral Fellowships in the Humanities, Arts, Sciences, and Professions 2010-2013
The Michigan Society of Fellows was founded in 1970 through grants from the Ford Foundation and Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies for the purpose of promoting academic and creative excellence in the humanities, the arts, the social, physical, and life sciences, and in the professions. In 2007, the Mellon Foundation awarded a grant to add four Mellon Fellows annually in the humanities, expanding the number of fellowships awarded each year from four to eight. The objective of the Society is to provide financial and intellectual support for individuals selected for outstanding achievement, professional promise, and interdisciplinary interests. We invite applications from qualified candidates for three-year postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Michigan.
Candidates should be near the beginning of their professional careers. Those selected for fellowships must have received the Ph.D. degree or comparable artistic or professional degree between June 1, 2007, and September 1, 2010. Fellows are appointed as Assistant Professors or Research Scientists in appropriate departments and as Postdoctoral Scholars in the Michigan Society of Fellows. They are expected to be in residence in Ann Arbor during the academic years of the fellowship, to teach for the equivalent of one academic year, to participate in the informal intellectual life of the Society, and to devote time to their independent research or artistic projects. Applications from degree candidates and recipients of the Ph.D. from the University of Michigan will not be considered.
Applications will be reviewed by Society members and University faculty. Final selections will be made in late January by Senior Fellows of the Society. Eight Fellows will be selected for three-year terms to begin September 1, 2010. The annual stipend will be $51,500.

Project Coordinator at Northwestern University
he Office of STEM Education Partnerships at Northwestern University seeks a talented and energetic Project Coordinator to help develop and coordinate partnerships between university science and engineering faculty and K-12 schools and teachers to advance STEM education.
OSEP is a university-funded initiative of the Office for Research and the School of Education and Social Policy to create and support effective partnerships between university STEM researchers and K-12 educators.
As a key member of the OSEP team, this individual participates in the establishment of university-K12 partnerships from conception through implementation. OSEP activities include the design and implementation of curriculum and/or teacher professional development, outreach programming, and other innovative mechanisms to support STEM education at the K-12 level.
As a member of OSEP, this individual will be responsible for a leadership role in:
· Supporting university research projects and institutes/centers in the design, development, and implementation of curriculum and teacher professional development
· Conducting evaluation on the design and impact of university-school partnerships
· Partnering with STEM faculty on development and preparation of new funding proposals with K-12 education and outreach components
· Developing and sustaining a community of partner schools, museums, and other science education providers in the Chicago area and nationally.
This individual will be supervised by the OSEP faculty leadership team in the School of Education and Social Policy.
Applicants should hold a master’s degree (or higher) in a science or engineering discipline, in science education, or in a related field. Desirable qualifications include curriculum and teacher professional development experience, ability to work closely with science and engineering faculty and researchers, proposal writing, and strong organization and communication skills. We especially seek individuals with prior experience in science education partnerships involving universities and K-12 schools. This position requires an individual with initiative and the ability to work independently.

Position Summary:
The Science Education Program seeks an outstanding candidate for a position as an Associate Research Physicist. The successful candidate will support existing programs for students and teachers, such as the Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy Institute for High School Physics Teachers and the National Undergraduate Fellowship in Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy Sciences. The responsibilities include leading workshops, designing new curricula, and conducting assessment. In addition, he or she will conduct plasma physics research in the Science Education Laboratory. The appointee will design evaluation studies, coordinate and conduct data collection activities (interviews, surveys, observations), conduct data analyses, prepare evaluation and project reports, conduct and write literature reviews, assist in developing and writing funding proposals, assist in the development and writing of Human Subjects protocols; present and publish results in academic and professional venues; and perform other duties to support of the REA Center.
Minimum qualifications include:
REQUIRED: MA or MS in educational evaluation or related field required; Past relevant work experience in educational evaluation with specific focus on multi-media technology; survey development and administration experience; data management experience; experience with statistical methods and quantitative analysis; ability to work with multiple clients and subjects in a variety of settings; experience developing and implementing Human Subjects protocols and working with CPHS to gain appropriate exemptions and approvals; ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse audiences and clients; experience working with learners in multiple settings, including K-12 schools.

VAP at Colgate University
The Colgate University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in physics to begin in fall 2009.
A Ph.D. in physics or a related discipline is required, and previous teaching experience is an advantage. We seek a person with a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Academic responsibilities will primarily be teaching our introductory level physics courses for non-majors, with the option of an upper level course or a course in Colgate’s Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. Although the candidate will have no research requirements during this appointment, collaboration with current faculty is possible. Colgate is a highly selective liberal arts university of 2800 students situated in a picturesque village in central New York. The department has nine faculty members and maintains well-equipped research laboratories in quantum and optical physics, condensed matter physics, and observational astronomy, located in the new Ho Science Center that is configured to facilitate interdisciplinary teaching and research.
Candidates should send a curriculum vitae plus a letter describing teaching experience and objectives, and a short description of research experience. The CV should include a publication list and the names of three individuals who have been asked by the candidate to send letters of recommendation. At least two letters should address the candidate’s teaching qualifications, and one should address the candidate’s research experience.

Associate/Full Professor, Teacher Ed./Teacher Prep at U of Wisconsin
University of Wisconsin - Parkside
The Department of Teacher Education at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of associate or full professor to serve as Coordinator of Teacher Preparation, a university wide function at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The Coordinator has primary responsibility for the development and maintenance of school and district partnerships as well as for compliance of the Teacher Preparation Program with DPI licensure requirements. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education in advancing the mission and vision of the Department and implementing its policies. The Coordinator reports to the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education.
Responsibilities: The Coordinator shall be a faculty member holding the rank of associate or full professor, and shall, within the constraints of performing duties as Coordinator, be expected to be professionally active in the areas of teaching, research and service. The Coordinator is responsible for:
* Meeting Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) requirements for teacher licensure and program accreditation
* Collaborating with the Teacher Education Department Chair and faculty in aligning the Teacher Preparation Program with state requirements, institutional priorities and local needs
* Representing the Teacher Preparation Program at selected state and community functions
* Supporting the Chair of the Teacher Education Department in the interpretation of DPI and university policies, goals, and practices to community partners
* Keeping Teacher Education faculty and content faculty apprised of issues affecting the Teacher Preparation Program
* Leading data collection efforts and preparing program reports as required by DPI and/or the university
* Serving as chief certification officer
* Fostering close partnerships with area schools and districts
* Working with the deans, department chairs, and program directors in matters related to evaluation and assessment
* Collaborating with concerned parties in the writing of department grants
* Teaching two courses per year in area of expertise
Required Qualifications:
* Doctorate in education or closely related field.
* A record of teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership at the post-secondary level to warrant appointment as an associate or full professor
* Minimum of three years of successful teaching in PK-12 schools
* Demonstrated knowledge of, interest in, and commitment to teacher preparation
* Demonstrated leadership skills
* Demonstrated administrative experience in education
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* A record of commitment to promotion of diversity in curriculum, hiring, and climate for faculty, students, and community, including affirmative action and equal opportunity
* Understanding of relevant state and federal regulations as they affect teacher education
* Experience with standards-based, outcomes-driven approaches to teacher preparation, teacher certification and licensure
* Consultative skills needed to relate effectively with school district personnel and community members and organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in obtaining and managing grants and external funding
* Experience in K-12 classroom-based teacher research and other research methods
Salary:
