Postdoc in Faculty Development at Xavier U (LA)

Educational Improvement Specialist-STEM Concentration
Post-Doctoral Experience

Summary:
Xavier University of Louisiana and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) invite applications for a unique post-doctoral opportunity for those interested in improving the educational experience of undergraduates in STEM majors. The Educational Improvement Specialist-STEM, positioned in CAT, will work in partnership with STEM faculty, principal investigators, departments, and programs to promote effective teaching strategies, improve student learning outcomes, and increase student retention in STEM disciplines. This is a 12-month, full-time staff position to run through Spring 2015.




Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the integration of existing STEM Programs and Initiatives
  • Work closely with key faculty, administrators, and staff to integrate existing STEM programs and initiatives
  • Develop periodic reports documenting STEM activities and results in STEM initiatives
  • Serve a pedagogical resource to STEM faculty
  • Design and conduct programs and workshops via CAT about effective teaching and learning strategies in the STEM disciplines
  • Assist STEM faculty and PIs with course/program design, development, and assessment methods
  • Design and conduct programs and activities as a way to disseminate information on pedagogical resources and successes within our existing STEM initiatives
  • Assist in preparing and administering grants
  • Support STEM faculty in the development, implementation, and evaluation of pedagogical STEM grant-funded programs and projects


Education:

  • Must have a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and a record of pedagogical expertise (e.g., scholarly activity in the form of pedagogical publications, preferably in the STEM disciplines), or
  • Must have a Ph.D. in a pedagogical field (e.g., instructional design) and an established record of applying this knowledge specifically to STEM disciplines

Additional experience:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and initiative
  • Teaching experience at the university level preferred
