Spelman College seeks a teacher/scholar dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic environment for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All tenure-track candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts and sciences education; be able to contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, mentoring and advising; assist in curriculum development; provide service to the department and College; as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment.
The Education Studies Program invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2013. Applicants should be prepared to teach appropriate courses in the Education Studies Program as well as interdisciplinary courses in the STEM fields; have proficiencies in at least two of the following areas: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics. She / he should be able to provide support and guidance to science faculty in the STEM departments in the establishment of interdisciplinary modules, introductory courses, and /or capstone courses, and lead the effort to develop criteria for measurable learning outcomes while establishing robust educational research and up-to-date assessment methods. The ideal applicant will show strong potential for collaboration across the diverse disciplines, be willing to contribute to the preparation of undergraduate pre-service teachers, and apply for external funding. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in undergraduate / secondary science education, evidence of effective teaching and program development, and show evidence of a viable research and publication plan.
Qualifications: Ph.D. is required; teaching experience and post-doctoral training preferred.
