Southern Vermont College seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor
of Mathematics for the 2013-2014 academic year. The College has been
achieving sustained growth in student enrollment. As a result, we are
seeking a professional who shares our excitement for teaching and
learning in a student-centered, interactive "laboratory learning"
environment.
The Division of Science and Technology is committed to excellence in education and provides the science and mathematics coursework for the College's healthcare programs as well as its core curriculum. The Division includes biological sciences, mathematics, and radiologic sciences. The ideal candidate will have a doctorate in mathematics, or mathematical education, physics, natural or physical sciences, and be able to teach across the STEM curriculum. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in Physics. Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester including algebra and introduction to physics, and student advising. Successful candidates will show a commitment to scholarship and community involvement, and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to experiential learning and innovative teaching.

The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematical Education, Natural or Physical Sciences;
- Demonstrated ability to teach Algebra and Introduction to Physics;
- A record of successful publication of first-author, peer-reviewed, original research articles and procurement of extramural funding;
- The ability to participate in, and provide leadership to, an interdisciplinary faculty team, (Business, Humanities, Nursing, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences) to create, develop, and teach in novel degree and certificate programs;
- Outstanding competencies in facilitating a depth of new learning in a student-centered, interactive, "laboratory learning" environment;
- Demonstrated experience with excellent learning facilitation in online course environments;
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and abilities of first-generation college students;
- The ability to adapt and grow with the College; and
- Commitment to continuing professional development, enthusiasm for informed teaching and learning discourse with colleagues, and engagement with the transformative experiences of teaching and learning.
