TT/T CUNY - La Guardia CC


The Department of Natural Sciences is seeking to fill one tenure-track faculty position in Physics at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank with an individual with a firm commitment to teaching and research.
Direct interaction with students in lectures, laboratory, advising and undergraduate research is expected. A 27-hour teaching load includes physics at all levels up to and including modern physics and introductory astronomy; calculus based general physics courses and laboratories; non-majors physical science course with laboratory; and other courses according to interest and need.  
The appointee will participate in developing new courses and improving existing curriculum to meet the growing needs of the department. Development of a viable research program and grant writing are expected.  Student mentoring is an important component of the duties of faculty and successful candidates will be required to develop research programs that will involve students.  The duties also include effective participation in departmental, school, college and university-wide activities.  LaGuardia emphasizes excellent teaching in a student-focused environment: candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to work with a diverse population.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Physics with excellent teaching credentials, preferably at the college level, and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.  Candidate will be expected to establish a research program with student participation.  Evidence of publications in a peer reviewed journal and grant-writing experience preferred.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with education and experience.
