Job Description: Plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Teach the full range of freshman and sophomore Physics courses. Advise students in academic matters. Evaluate students by a variety of means to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform them in a timely manner of their progress. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Work with students outside of classroom as needed and remain accessible to them through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods. Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Develop and use a syllabus for each course within college and departmental guidelines. Post syllabus online for each course, each semester. Review, evaluate, and recommend student learning materials. Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles. Teach distance-learning (on-line) courses, as needed. Establish annual objectives, including personal and professional growth plans in consultation with dean. Participate in college-related activities such as registration, community education, recruitment of students, student advising, graduation, selection of faculty, student activities, and/or special programs. Serve on departmental, college and system-wide committees, as needed. Submit required college reports and forms. Become familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures of the LSC System. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties, as assigned.
Requirements: Master's degree in Physics or a closely related physical science, or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Physics or a closely related physical science. LSC-Online certification or a commitment to obtain certification through Lone Star College System within 12 months of employment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated interest and/or experience with interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning communities and distance learning.
