Science Outreach Coordinator at Kent State University

Setting: Kent State University (http://www.kent.edu/index.cfm) is located in Northeast Ohio, a geographic area rich in institutional diversity. Kent, Ohio (http://www.kentohio.org/) is a mid-sized community located on the Cuyahoga River, approximately 10 miles from Akron and 35 miles from Cleveland. The Cuyahoga National Park, Blossom Music Center, and many hiking and biking trails are within 35 minutes of campus. Kent State is a Doctoral Extensive/Research University with a strong College and Graduate School of Education, Health and Human Services. The College offers a variety of licensure programs and professional development opportunities for teachers, curriculum specialists, and administrators; technology links to Ohio public schools and regional campuses; and a robotic-controlled observatory. Kent State is also part of the Northeast Ohio Center of Excellence for Mathematics and Science Teacher Education.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for the operation of a broad educational outreach effort including both in-school visits and professional development programs. In conjunction with Kent State University faculty members, he or she will develop exciting and engaging science content modules which are standards-based, level appropriate, and readily deployable in regional school districts. In addition, active participation in extramural funding development is also required.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in physical or life sciences, or in science secondary education—master’s degree preferred; evidence of excellent in-service teaching; four to five years relevant experience at K-12 level or equivalent thereof; strong organizational/administrative skills.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
