Teaching Specialist/ Lecturer in Learning Tech. at U. Minnesota Twin Cities

Duties/Responsibilities: The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota, invites nominations and applications for a teaching specialist/lecturer in Learning Technologies. The Learning Technologies program engages in research, teaching, and development regarding the integration, teaching, and design of technology-based environments for K-12, business, community, and distance learning settings. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track position in a highly regarded college of a major urban research university. Opportunities to teach during the summer are usually available. Located in the culturally diverse cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the University of Minnesota offers unique opportunities for research and participation in varied cultural communities. This faculty member will teach courses and provide leadership in the innovative use and teaching of technology and in helping others understand the role and implications of technology in society. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Teaching and advising: Teach learning technologies courses to undergraduate, professional, and graduate students. Service: Assist with scheduling/staffing of courses and with curriculum development. Participate in college, University, and community service or other outreach activities, such as service on internal committees or task forces and/or collaborating with external constituencies. Participate in the activities of relevant professional organizations. Appointment Details: The individual hired will be appointed to a full-time, 9-month position beginning on or after January 13, 2011. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Annual renewals are contingent upon a successful performance review, continuing need for the position, and availability of funds.

Required/Preferred Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: -An earned masters in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Teacher Education, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field is required for appointment as a Teaching Specialist. -An earned doctorate in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Teacher Education, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field is required for appointment as a Lecturer. -Familiarity with basic and content-specific technologies (e.g., Adobe Flash, HTML/CSS, Apple Final Cut Pro). -Experience in general and content-specific graphic and web design. -Teaching experience in schools, business, and/or community settings. Preferred Qualifications: -Demonstrated experience of innovative technology use to support teaching and learning. -Evidence of knowledge and application of instructional design. -Evidence of a commitment to the development of learning materials or environments. -Evidence of a commitment to technology integration in P16 educational and/or industry settings. -Experience with middle-ware programming and database integration (e.g., MySQL, PHP, etc.) -Experience in preparing teachers to teach with learning technologies. -Experience in teaching the role and implications of technology in society. -Evidence of service to professional organizations.
