Faculty position at Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Editor's note: MIT is inviting application for faculty posts in five subfields: Astrophysics, Soft Condensed Matter and Biophysics, Hard Condensed Matter, Experimental Nuclear and Particle Physics, and Theoretical Physics. They also invite applications for interdisciplinary research, which is listed here.

The Physics Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology invites applications for the faculty positions described below. Faculty members at MIT conduct research, teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses, and supervise graduate and undergraduate participation in research. Candidates must show promise in teaching as well as in research. Preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level.

General Physics and Astronomy – We recognize that there is important interdisciplinary physics research that is not easily classified within traditional subfields. We encourage outstanding individuals whose work does not lie within one of the searches described above to apply through our general search category. Any enquiries should be directed to: Professor Edmund Bertschinger, Department Head, edbert@mit.edu.

The application deadline for all faculty positions is November 19, 2010. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a brief description of research interests and goals (the latter not to exceed three pages) at the following web site: http://www.academicjobsonline.com. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be uploaded to the same site. Only web submissions will be accepted. http://web.mit.edu
