This is a tenure track position in the Department of Physics.

The Physics program at Kettering University is built on experiential education with an emphasis on work integrated and active learning, implemented by alternating academic and co-op or experiential education terms.

The Physics department offers two bachelor degrees, Applied Physics and Engineering Physics, as well as five minors in Physics, Optics, Acoustics, Materials and Nanotechnology, and Medical Physics.

Applicant must have a PhD in Physics or a closely related field, with expertise in a field of physics that could support the growth of our newly established Medical Physics minor. We are committed to a teacher-scholar model with a focus on student learning, intellectual and professional growth, and career success.

The successful applicant is expected to establish an active research program that improves department capabilities, supports professional development of faculty, and enhances opportunities for student learning.

The preferred starting date for this position is July 2011. Applications received before January 15, 2011 will receive full consideration. All applicants must submit a letter of application, Curriculum Vitae, a list of three professional references, and a statement describing the role of faculty in undergraduate learning.

Primary duties are:

- Teaching and learning duties, including course, laboratories, and curriculum development, student projects, professional development aiming at enhancing student learning and best practices in teaching and learning. Typical faculty teaching load consist of 55% plus or minus 10 percent of their total workload per year.

- Research and scholarship is counted as 25% plus or minus 10% of the faculty annual contributions. This includes establishing a research program appropriate for Kettering University, and aligned with teacher-scholar model. Also, it is expected that faculty involves students in research projects, publish their research and scholarship work in peer reviewed journals, as well as presentations in conferences.

- Service and citizenship is counted as 20% plus or minus 10% of the faculty annual workload. This includes service activities within the department, the institution, the profession, and the community.
