ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION
University of Maryland, Baltimore County
The Department of Education at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education to begin Fall 2011. Major responsibilities include advising and teaching pre-service undergraduate/graduate K-12 teachers, maintaining an active research agenda and engaging in service related duties. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with members of other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program areas as well as Professional Development Schools.

Applicants for the position should have an earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. by August 2011 in mathematics education or a related field. Exceptional doctoral candidates near degree completion will receive consideration.

Located between Baltimore and Washington, DC, UMBC is an NCATE-accredited, Carnegie

The Department has 21 full-time faculty on tenure-track, clinical, and lecturer lines and serves over 550 graduate students in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) initial certification program, Master of Arts in Instructional Systems Development program , Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program, and Master of Arts in Education (MAE) program. In addition, approximately 250 students are seeking initial teacher certification through the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education undergraduate programs. The Department also partners with six other departments in offering the interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Language, Literacy, and Culture. The faculty is actively engaged in several state and national STEM education related initiatives such as the Noyce Scholars Program, INSPIRES, Teacher Quality Grants, Sherman Scholars Program and STEP T for ELLs.
