The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Drake University invites applications to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Experimental Biophysics beginning August 2011. The main responsibilities of the successful applicant are to effectively present undergraduate physics and biophysics courses at both the introductory and upper levels, mentoring and supervising capstone experiences, pursuing external funding, and, together with other faculty, planning the development of the biophysics curriculum at Drake. The main emphasis of the department is on excellence of instruction, but the candidates must show promise of an active program of scholarship capable of involving undergraduates. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in physics, biophysics or a closely related field. Post-doctoral experience is a plus. Start-up funds are available.
Applicants should send a full curriculum vitae, a description of teaching philosophy and experience, a statement of research interests and a detailed plan to involve undergraduates in research. The names, addresses, and e-mail addresses of three references should be included. Consideration of applications will begin November 15, 2010 and will continue until the position is filled. Address materials or requests for further information (email submissions preferred) to Prof. Charles Nelson, Chair, Department of Physics & Astronomy, Drake University, Des Moines IA 50311.
