Applied Mathematics - Tenure-Track Position (Mathematical/Theoretical Physics)

Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Applied Mathematics (www.math.uwaterloo.ca/AM_Dept) at the University of Waterloo, in the field of Mathematical/Theoretical Physics, to begin on or after July 1, 2011. The position is at the Assistant Professor level and salary will be commensurate with experience and research record. In exceptional cases, an appointment at a higher level may be possible.

We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in the areas of gravity, quantum gravity or cosmology. Candidates should show evidence of outstanding potential in research and should have a strong background in both mathematics and physics. We are looking for applicants with enthusiasm for the supervision of graduate students and for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

The department maintains close ties with the Faculties of Science and Engineering regarding both research and teaching, and we offer an undergraduate program in Mathematical Physics with the Department of Physics. Waterloo is a very active and large centre for research in Mathematical Physics. The successful applicant may be considered for an Associate Membership at the independent Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (www.perimeterinstitute.ca) and/or the Institute for Quantum Computing (www.iqc.ca) at the University of Waterloo.
